Basic principles for the construction of this house: a house that can be used for a lifetime, plenty of light and sun, sustainable, energy-neutral and in keeping with a rural area. Wood frame construction was chosen, with walls and roof consisting of Rawblox prefabricated straw elements. Straw is a nature-friendly residual product from agricultural production in Groningen that has a very high insulation value due to its density (125 kg/per m3 straw). In combination with a loam plaster layer on the inside and outside, the facades and roof are vapour-permeable, which gives a pleasant indoor climate (fairly constant humidity). The desire for sustainable and energy-neutral was also realised in the kitchen fittings (zeolith in dishwasher, recirculation hood with plasma air filter). The building plot offered the possibility of positioning the house. More dense walls were chosen on the north-east side and many windows on the south-west side. One roof side on the south-west side is entirely covered with solar panels. The house has an EPC of 0.05. Use of an air-water heat pump, heat exchanger installation and 36 solar panels (270 WP) makes energy-neutral living possible. This extra investment is recouped in about 8 years.
